5/5/2017 0 Comments A Dog's Purpose Post 1So far in my book, I have read to page 109. I really like that the book is in the dog's perspective because it kind of shows what dogs are thinking in a way that I hadn't thought about before. It shows that they can read emotions just by the way someone says something. The author also shows the dog (whatever his name is at the time) trying to figure out what words mean for example when the Grandma tells Ethan to call Bailey a doodle dog instead of a stupid dog, it starts out as a bad thing but later on Ethan calls him a doodle dog just as a nickname and Bailey can sense the change in attitude so he knows it's not a bad name anymore. Something else that I find really interesting is how the dog is always using tricks he learned from his past life. For example when the dog was Toby, his mom showed him how to open the gate with his mouth. He has used that trick to get away from the puppy mill and to get out of the garage as Bailey. This is just one example of this, another one is when Bailey knocks over trash cans to get to food just like his mom taught him when he was Toby. Another thing that I think is cool about the dog is that he always learns from his mistakes. For example when he found the skunk at Ethan's Grandma's house, it sprayed him. This one took him a couple of times but he eventually learned to leave the skunk alone.
I think that the dog is a very curious person. He likes to explore and is very compassionate about almost everything he does. The author shows this when Bailey attacks Todd, the dog didn't know that Todd was trying to harm Ethan and his family but he sensed that something wasn't right, so he attacked Todd and made him bleed. This shows how passionate the dog is because it takes a lot to attack someone especially if you aren't sure if it is appropriate to do so. Another thing that I noticed about the dog is how observant and eager to learn he is. For example when the dog finds something new, he goes to explore the thing and then takes note on things that he should and shouldn't do. One example of this was the skunk situation. When Bailey first finds the skunk he goes to sniff it out to see if it was friendly and if it wanted to play. Bailey took very specific notes on what the skunk looked like and learned to never go near one again. All in all I think the dog is very smart and a very passionate character.

3/23/2017 0 Comments What I Did Over Spring Break 2k17Over Spring break I went to Fort Myers, Florida with my family. On the first day in Fort Myers, me and my family went to Fort Myers beach. The water was really cold since it was just getting warm but it was still warm enough to swim in. Me and my dad stayed to play in the water while my mom and sister walked around checking out all of the shops. We ate a delicious lunch on the bay walk and then stopped at love boat ice cream on the way back to the house. On the second day we went to a place called Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve where we took a beautiful nature hike. On the hike we saw 3 alligators, a lot of cool birds, turtles, fish, and boars. My favorite part of this hike was the boars because they were babies and they were really cute. The rest of the night we went swimming at the pool and ate dinner with friends in Florida at the same time as us. On the third day that we were in Florida, my family drove to an island called Sanibel Island, here we rented bikes and rode around the small island all day. Along the way we stopped at beaches including my favorite beach (Lighthouse beach) to go for short swims. The water on Sanibel was much colder than the water in Fort Myers. Later that day we went to another small island called Captiva. This island had huge houses and a lot of beautiful beaches. We stopped at one beach to watch the sunset and then headed back home. On the fourth day, we went to watch a spring training game. The teams that were playing were the Red Sox and the Twins. After four hours of sitting directly in the sun and getting a horrible sun burn, the Red Sox won. After the game we went out to eat to a pizza parlor where they teach people how to make pizza dough (including tossing it up into the air) I think the funnest part of this was when the pizza dough landed on my sisters head when she tried to catch it. After dinner we went to go play mini-golf at a that had a castle theme. This was really cool and got kind of scary when you went into the dragons den. After this we drove back home and relaxed for the rest of the night. On the fifth and final day of our stay in Florida, we went to Fort Myers beach again. This time was special because we went on a banana boat ride which is like tubing but on the ocean. This was really fun but I think the best part about this day was seeing a dolphin really close up and trying to keep up with it so we could touch it. All in all I would say it was a very successful spring break trip and I can't wait to go back to Florida soon!
3/9/2017 0 Comments Night vs. Boy in Striped PJsSome similarities between The Boy in Striped PJs and Night are, they are both set in the 1940's or 50's during the Holocaust. Both are mainly about life in concentration camps and the struggles that go along with that. Shmol and Elie both like to stay near their fathers and when they lose them they are both worried. They both get separated from their families and make up stories on how they got separated. For example in Night Elie and Shlomo tell themselves that the rest of the family if okay but deep down they really know what happened.
My feelings towards the holocaust have changed because now I know more of what happened to these innocent people. I used to think it was a bad time but I didn't comprehend just how badly jews and others were treated. Night really opened my eyes to this because it went further into detail about what actually happened and what these people actually had to go through. The boy in the striped pajamas did a good job of looking at the holocaust from both sides of the story even though it is still a horrible event in history. 2/20/2017 2 Comments Night SignpostsThe Signpost that I noticed was again and again I found it on page 74 when Elie's father said me too twice. The reason he repeated himself was because he was out of breath from all of the running he had done. He had just learned that he was picked for further inspection at the recent selection because he was too weak to work. After he learned this information he gave Eliezer a knife just in case he were to be sent to death. I think the author brought this up because it was an important detail to emphasize the seriousness of what was currently happening. If he hadn't repeated himself then it wouldn't seem so serious. When he repeated himself it showed how out of breath his father was. Since he was out of breath you can infer that his father was running to share this information. This shows how urgent it was.
Another Signpost I found was on page 100. This is a memory moment signpost. This occurs as Elie is telling the stories about how people would kill each other for a piece of bread that someone had thrown in. As he is telling this story he recalls a similar time on his ship. Passengers would throw coins to the peasants and watched them fight over the money. He asked one woman to stop but she simply replied that she was giving back to charity. This is an important memory because this event was so similar and probably triggered the memory of Elie's time in the holocaust. The final Signpost I found was on page 102. This was a words of the wiser signpost. After Meir Katz saves Elie from the man who was strangling him, he went to Shlomo and told him that he couldn't go on any further but Shlomo insisted that he must not lose hope and urged him with all of his might to fight to stay alive. The life lesson here is to not give up, even when times are bad you simply can't. It affected Meir Katz by making him more willing to stay alive. Before he was going to give up on life but after Shlomo told him that he still has strength in him, it made him want to fight harder to stay alive. These are some of my signposts that I found in Night by Elie Wiesel 12/16/2016 0 Comments If I were POTUSIf I were president of the United States, these would be my priorities. First of all, I would get rid of the wage gap. I think that everyone has equal right no matter their race, gender, religion, or sexuality. The fact that women get paid less than men is simply not American. I believe that women are no different than men and can do the same jobs, therefore they should get paid equally. It is important because everyone needs to feel equal in our country and by paying someone less just because they are a different gender definitely doesn't read as equal. This law doesn't just go for women, it goes for people of different races, religions, sexuality as well. Along with the wage gap, this executive order would also ban employers from firing and/or not hiring someone because of their gender, race, religion, or sexuality.
My second priority would be to instead of throwing people in jail for substance abuse, to give them help. For example, if someone was injecting themselves with a substance, there would be people to give them clean needles so it will be a little bit safer. In no way am I saying it is okay to abuse drugs but instead of punishing people maybe offer them rehabilitation or cleaner materials. There would be a fine and the abusers would be put on probation but they would not be put in jail. It would still be illegal to have possession of drugs in public and the abusers would only be allowed a small amount. If they were found to have more than their limit than they will be taken into custody so they don't harm themselves and will be forced into rehab along with that, they're probation time would be added to. My third priority as president would be to enforce a law stating that all children must attend school until they are 18 years old. The current law is you only have to be 16 years old to drop out of school. I feel that you are not old enough to make life changing decisions like this and even though you have to have your parents permission, they might not know how to say no or won't for some other reason. Most employers won't hire someone if they haven't finished college let alone high school and the jobs that will be available will not be able to pay bills. It will be better because the more people who are educated=the more people who work and the more people who work=more benefits as a country. These are my top 3 priorities as president. 12/14/2016 0 Comments Living inside of a videogame If you could live inside any video game, which would you choose? Why?
If I had to live in a videogame I would live in Mario Kart. One reason I would live in Mario Kart is because I am a very competetive person and I like winning a lot. Every time I play Mario Kart I win so I feel like I would always be happy in that game. Next, I really like driving so I feel that if I was able to drive all day it would never get boring. Another reason why I would live in Mario Kart is even when I did get tired of drving all of the time. I would have breaks because you have to be selected by the person playing the game to race. I think I would be one of the semi-popular characters like Diddy Kong so that I would sometimes have a break. These are the reasons of why I would live in Mario Kart If I had to pick which vehicle to pick well... That's easy. I would choose the Match Bike because that is theone I always win with. I like this bike because you can turn really sharp corners without decreasing your speed by too much. Another reason I like this bike is simply because of the look of it. I really like how sleek and areo dynamic it looks. Boosts are also easy to get with this bike because it is fast and easy to control. I would choose the automatic option of course because manual is just so much harder. If I was to pick a color that the bike would be, I would pick a light blue because it is my favorite color and I think it would look really cool with the design of the bike. These are the reasons of why I would pick the Match Bike 11/22/2016 0 Comments What I am thankful for In life I am thankful for lots of things. One of these things is my friends. I love my friends so much and they are always there for me (especially Jordan lol). I am thankful for them because they always make me laugh and make me feel better on my worst days. Another thing that I'm thankful for may sound weird, but its Youtube. More specifically Colleen Ballinger or Shane Dawson, I am thankful for these people because they make me laugh. Colleen is my idol for singing and ukulele and my birthday is coming up and I'm hoping for tickets to her live show.
The next thing that I am thankful for is of course my family, my sister, my mom, my dad, and my two dogs. I am super thankful for these important people because they support me in whatever I do and they love me and I love them. They make sure to take time out of they're busy schedule to do things like watch my gymnastics meets or so I can simply go over to a friends house. One last thing that I am thankful for is life itself. Without life I wouldn't be able to do all of the things that I have the wonderful opportunity to do, and well... It's pretty great to be alive! 11/9/2016 2 Comments Presidential Election Results When I woke up Wednesday Morning I was truly sad, mad, frustrated, and confused. In my eyes Donald Trump is not fit to be president of the United States. I think this because he is everything that we are trying to get rid of in our country, for example Trump does not support the LGBT community and neither does Mike Pence, and what Donald Trump calls "extreme vetting" is really just banning immigrants from the US for a certain amount of time. That really isn't what America stands for. In my eyes America is an accepting country, we are the country that people flee to to get away from war or bad government. The fact that we have a president like Trump truly scares me.
When people say that Hillary Clinton is a liar and a criminal, it frustrates me sometimes but I agree that she wasn't the best candidate either. She was negligent of the troops in Benghazi when she was secretary of state and she lied about some things, when you look at things though she is the better of two evils, Donald Trump is racist, sexist, and a homophobe. He is just not fit to be president. Either way, I still respect Trump voters and their opinion, I am just truly scared about what is going to happen to our country. 10/19/2016 5 Comments My Favorite Vacation One of my all time favorite vacations was when I went to Hawaii. I loved Hawaii because there is a beach there called Manele bay that has the perfectly sized waves for boogey boarding. and surfing. Another reason I love it there is because my Aunt and Uncle live there on a little island called Lanai. They live on a closed golf course so we get to drive around everywhere and explore. On one of our adventures, we climbed up a small mountain and looked down on the whole city. You could see the whole island! Another one of my favorites is when we went snorkeling off of the bay and my uncle would name off every fish we saw. My favorite fish was the parrot fish. Below are some pictures from this vacation.
My next vacation is my vacation I took to Colorado. One of the reasons this is my favorite place to go is because my cousins live there. Another reason is because there is an amazing zoo on the side of a mountain! One of my favorite things that I did in Colorado was climbing Pikes Peak. It was a ten hour trip but completely worth it. Although this was one of my favorite vacations ever, I think that Hawaii takes the cake. |
