5/5/2017 0 Comments A Dog's Purpose Post 1So far in my book, I have read to page 109. I really like that the book is in the dog's perspective because it kind of shows what dogs are thinking in a way that I hadn't thought about before. It shows that they can read emotions just by the way someone says something. The author also shows the dog (whatever his name is at the time) trying to figure out what words mean for example when the Grandma tells Ethan to call Bailey a doodle dog instead of a stupid dog, it starts out as a bad thing but later on Ethan calls him a doodle dog just as a nickname and Bailey can sense the change in attitude so he knows it's not a bad name anymore. Something else that I find really interesting is how the dog is always using tricks he learned from his past life. For example when the dog was Toby, his mom showed him how to open the gate with his mouth. He has used that trick to get away from the puppy mill and to get out of the garage as Bailey. This is just one example of this, another one is when Bailey knocks over trash cans to get to food just like his mom taught him when he was Toby. Another thing that I think is cool about the dog is that he always learns from his mistakes. For example when he found the skunk at Ethan's Grandma's house, it sprayed him. This one took him a couple of times but he eventually learned to leave the skunk alone.
I think that the dog is a very curious person. He likes to explore and is very compassionate about almost everything he does. The author shows this when Bailey attacks Todd, the dog didn't know that Todd was trying to harm Ethan and his family but he sensed that something wasn't right, so he attacked Todd and made him bleed. This shows how passionate the dog is because it takes a lot to attack someone especially if you aren't sure if it is appropriate to do so. Another thing that I noticed about the dog is how observant and eager to learn he is. For example when the dog finds something new, he goes to explore the thing and then takes note on things that he should and shouldn't do. One example of this was the skunk situation. When Bailey first finds the skunk he goes to sniff it out to see if it was friendly and if it wanted to play. Bailey took very specific notes on what the skunk looked like and learned to never go near one again. All in all I think the dog is very smart and a very passionate character.
